When we couldn’t find a way home,
I decided to build one.
After our family of five was stranded in the Dominican Republic, I started building Get Us Home right from the airport — turning our travel disruption into an idea for a better way home.
OUR STORY
A cancelled flight changed everything.
Get Us Home started with a family vacation that didn’t end as planned.
I was in the Dominican Republic with my family of five when our flight home was cancelled. The next available flight the airline could offer us wasn’t for five days.
We needed to get home, but no one could help us find another option.
So I started searching myself.
Back at our hotel in the Dominican Republic, I spent hours searching for alternative flights from different airports, trying random U.S. cities to see if I could piece together connecting flights that would get all five of us home.
I searched airline websites, refreshed flight availability over and over, and called airlines trying to find seats. Every time I thought I found a possible way home, availability would change, and I would start searching again.
When we finally found a way home, I couldn't stop thinking about how difficult the entire process had been. At the airport in the Dominican Republic, waiting to head home, I opened my computer and started building Get Us Home.
There has to be a better way to do this.
FROM EXPERIENCE TO SOLUTION
That experience became Get Us Home.
I built Get Us Home because I knew our family couldn’t be the only one experiencing this.
When a flight is cancelled or disrupted, travelers shouldn’t have to spend hours searching dozens of routes, checking different airports, refreshing websites, and calling airlines just to figure out how to get home.
Get Us Home is a flight disruption and recovery platform designed to help travelers find another way home.
Our flight recovery search helps travelers explore alternative flights, connecting flights, alternate airports, and different routes when their original travel plans fall apart.

Finding an alternative flight is only part of the challenge. Seats can appear and disappear quickly, especially when hundreds of other travelers are trying to recover from the same disruption.
With Get Us Home Flight Watch, travelers can choose flights and recovery options they want monitored. We keep checking flight availability for their full party for 24 hours.
When matching availability is found, customers who have opted in can receive service-related flight availability alerts by text message and/or email so they can quickly search the available option and determine whether it works for their trip.

My goal is simple: when travel goes wrong, give people a better way to find their way home.
